Petals and Prem
Auckland, New Zealand
February 14 2012 & 2013
On Valentines day in Khartoum Place in 2012 and again in 2013, Cleo facilitated a beautiful collaborative performance art installation between artist Tiffany Singh and musician Balamohan called Petals and Prem.
"The purpose of this event is a two fold experiment in understanding and accepting love. Aligned with traditional Eastern and Western motifs, we used valentines day as a forum to be able to offer generosity in the form of music and flowers. The event prioritized sharing, giving and making people feel loved and able to communally share in the beauty of Classical Hindi music. Although many people asked who was sponsoring the event, or what flower company I worked for! It was a wonderful chance to engage with Auckland, provide joy and extend love to those around me by the simple gesture of giving a flower.
As Balamohan’s voice filled Khartoum place with a wondrous and magical energy his tones gently enticed people in, allowing us to to share with Auckland and encourage people to take a moment to listen to the exotic and beautiful music and feel loved though the most simple of offerings. My hope is that in time, a woman giving out flowers, and talented musicians sharing their gift can one day be seen as a meaningful gesture rather than an possible advertising campaign!”
